Griffin, Oklahoma look to keep rolling

Dec 13, 2008 - 11:30 AM Utah (5-3) at No. 5 Oklahoma (9-0), 4:00 pm EST

NORMAN, Oklahoma (Ticker) -- Blake Griffin has Oklahoma thinking big things.

Behind their superstar sophomore, the fifth-ranked Sooners have the chance to match their school's best start in a season when they take on Utah on Saturday.

Griffin scored 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as Oklahoma notched a 78-52 victory over Maine on Wednesday, getting off to its best start since the 2003-04 team opened with 10 straight wins.

A preseason All-American selection, Griffin has scored 20-plus points seven times and has recorded double-doubles in seven of his last nine contests. He is averaging 24.4 points and 15.6 rebounds per game.

The Sooners have scored at least 75 points in seven of their nine games, and have held opponents under 70 five times.

Utah has dropped two in a row, both by close margins. The Utes were edged, 72-68, by Idaho State last Saturday and defeated, 72-69, by California on Wednesday.

They have been sparked by senior center Luke Nevill, who leads the team with 18.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
