Abrams, Texas face Texas State eyeing fifth straight win

Dec 13, 2008 - 11:30 AM Texas State (3-4) at No. 6 Texas (7-1) 1:00 p.m. EST

AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) -- After forging a pair of impressive victories during its last two games, sixth-ranked Texas gets a well-deserved break in the schedule on Saturday when it hosts Texas State.

A.J. Abrams matched a career high with 31 points on December 4, helping the Longhorns claim a 68-64 victory against then-No. 9 UCLA in the Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series.

The 5-11 senior guard, Abrams was at it again on Tuesday, scoring 26 points as Texas earned its second straight win against a ranked opponent, 67-58, over No. 12 Villanova.

Abrams, Texas' leading scorer at 18 points per game, made 8-of-17 shots from the field, including four 3-pointers. He made two of those threes and added a three-point play in a 4 1/2-minute span in the second half, helping the Longhorns turn a three-point lead into a 57-47 advantage with 5:30 remaining.

Earning a fifth straight win should be no problem for Abrams and Texas against Texas State, which has lost three of its last four games, including a 100-94 setback to cross-state rival Rice last Saturday.
