Harden, Arizona State seek fourth straight win

Dec 14, 2008 - 8:22 AM IUPUI (5-3) at (18) Arizona State (7-1), 3:15 p.m. EST

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- If James Harden continues his torrid play, 18th-ranked Arizona State has a good chance of extending its winning streak to four games when it takes on IUPUI in the Desert Classic at U.S. Airways Arena on Sunday.

Harden is among the nation's leaders in scoring, averaging 25.5 points per game. He has also converted 50 percent of his 3-pointers (18-for-36) and leads the team with 7.3 rebounds per game.

The sophomore guard netted 20 points and added nine rebounds and six assists in Arizona State's 64-44 win over Nebraska on December 7. It was Harden's fourth consecutive game with 20-plus points.

Senior forward Jeff Pendergraph has also been stellar, shooting a team-best 66.7 percent from the field and averaging 12 points.

The Sun Devils have the chance to notch their fourth 8-1 start in the last 34 seasons. They were 11-1 to begin the 2004-05 season and had their best start at 15-1 in 1974-75.

IUPUI, coming off a program-best 26-7 campaign, fell, 58-48, to Western Illinois in its Summit League opener.

Freshman forward Alex Young has paced the Jaguars, averaging 14.1 points per game.
