After long layoff, UConn hosts Stony Brook

Dec 15, 2008 - 2:32 PM Stony Brook (5-4) at (2) Connecticut (8-0), 7:00 pm EST

HARTFORD, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Connecticut had 10 days to think about its last performance and how to avoid another one like it.

The second-ranked Huskies return to the court Monday to take on Stony Brook at the XL Center.

Because of final exams, UConn had some extra time to reflect on its 66-62 survival against Buffalo on December 4. The Huskies used a second-half run to avoid a nearly unthinkable upset.

The Bulls threatened to pull the shocker until Connecticut went on an 15-5 surge to turn a 51-48 deficit into a 63-56 lead with 3:31 left.

Hasheem Thabeet had 21 points and 18 rebounds for the Huskies, who are looking to start 9-0 for the third time in four seasons.

The Seawolves, who are coached by former UConn captain and assistant Steve Pikiell, are 0-10 against ranked teams since 1999.

Stony Brook had its four-game winning streak snapped Wednesday, suffering a 61-56 loss to Hofstra.
