Abrams hopes to stay hot as Texas hosts winless Texas Southern

AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) -- Finally the focal point of the offense, A.J. Abrams is excelling during his senior campaign.

The Texas guard looks to stay hot when the fifth-ranked Longhorns host Texas Southern on Tuesday.

Abrams averaged 15.5 points during his sophomore season, which was second to Kevin Durant, and scored 16.5 per game last season when D.J. Augustin starred for the Longhorns.

The 5-11 senior is scoring 20.2 per game this season to lead Texas and is shooting a career-high 47 percent from the arc.

Abrams had 30 points to lead Texas to an 81-73 triumph over Texas State on Saturday. He is averaging 29 points over his last three games.

Texas Southern has had a tough time defending anyone this season as it is allowing 77.1 points during the eight defeats.

The Tigers committed 24 turnovers and were throttled at Washington, 88-52, on December 6.
