Back in the Top 25, Minnesota looks to remain undefeated

Dec 23, 2008 - 11:11 AM Southeastern Louisiana (6-4) at No. 23 Minnesota (10-0) 9:00 p.m. EST

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Minnesota is finally beginning to get some national recognition.

The 23rd-ranked Golden Gophers look to remain undefeated on Tuesday when they host Southeastern Louisiana.

Off to its best start in 32 years, Minnesota continued their surprising season Saturday with a 70-64 victory over then-No. 9 Louisville.

Al Nolen had 18 points and six rebounds, Blake Hoffarber had 15 points off the bench and Travis Busch added 13 for Minnesota, which moved into the Top 25 for the first time since December 9, 2002.

Golden Gophers coach Tubby Smith, who succeeded Cardinals' coach Rick Pitino as head coach at Kentucky, beat his friend and improved to 7-4 vs. Louisville alltime.

Minnesota hit 27-of-37 from the free-throw line. Nolen led the way, finishing 13-of-17 from the stripe.

The Golden Gophers will try to equal their best start since opening the 1976-77 campaign 11-0 with a win over Southeastern Louisiana, which has won back-to-back games, including a 70-51 victory over Jackson State on Saturday.

Kevyn Green, the team's leading scorer, and Patrick Sullivan scored 18 points apiece for the Lions, who have won five of their last six games overall.
