Musketeers seek bounce back effort vs. Butler
Dec 23, 2008 - 11:10 AM Butler (9-1) at No. 12 Xavier (9-1) 7:00 pm. ESTCINCINNATI (Ticker) -- Xavier will try to rebound from one of its worst losses under Sean Miller on Tuesday when the 12th-ranked Musketeers host former conference foe Butler.
Xavier was blown out by then-No. 6 Duke, 82-64, on Saturday. The Musketeers were never in the game, and trailed by 31 points at halftime.
It was the Musketeers' worst loss since a 77-55 setback to Arizona State on December 15 of last season.
Xavier hopes to win a 16th straight game at Cintas Center against Butler, which it used to play regularly when both were members of the Midwestern Collegiate Conference from 1979-1995.
The Musketeers have won the last seven meetings, but have not faced the Bulldogs since 1998.
The defending Horizon League champion, Butler is coming off a 75-53 win over Division III Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday. The Bulldogs held the Eagles to 36 percent from the floor (17-of-47).
Freshman point guard Shelvin Mack had 12 points and a career-high eight assists for Butler, who may crack the Top-25 with a win over Xavier. The Bulldogs' lone loss came to then-No. 21 Ohio State on December 13.
