Ohio State goes for 10 straight

Dec 27, 2008 - 11:31 AM West Virginia (9-2) at No. 13 Ohio State (9-0), 4:00 p.m. EST

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Ticker) -- Ohio State will try and remain perfect when it hosts West Virginia on Saturday.

Dating to last season's NIT, the Buckeyes own the nation's longest winning streak at 14 games.

Ohio State is coming off an 83-59 victory over North Carolina-Asheville on Monday.

Evan Turner scored 17 points and freshman William Buford had a season-high 16 in the win for the Buckeyes, who will be without junior forward David Lighty for the straight game. Lighty is expected to miss six to 12 weeks after breaking a bone in his left foot on December 17.

The contest will give the Mountaineers a good chance to earn a signature non-conference win before the club opens Big East Conference play on January 3.

West Virginia has won three straight, including an 89-54 trouncing of Radford on Tuesday.

Senior Alex Ruoff scored a career-high 38 points, shooting 9-of-14 from the arc, to help the Mountaineers post their highest offensive scoring output since their season opener. Ruoff leads the team in scoring at 17 points per contest.
