Top College Basketball Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions: Monday (1/2)

Rutgers at Purdue

In a lowkey slue of Monday games post-New Year’s, Rutgers and Purdue offer a little excitement on the slate. Purdue hopes to remain undefeated at the top of the AP rankings, and Rutgers hopes to get back into the top 25.

I am not exactly making a crazy claim when I say this: Purdue is due for some regression. Despite their undefeated record, they are only 10-3 according to ShotQuality this season, the same ShotQuality as Rutgers. The Boilermakers also rank second in offensive rebounding and 15th in turnover percentage, neither of which is sustainable.

I am surprised that this line sits at eight. Most projection sites tally this game closer to five or six points. Purdue is destined for a loss soon. Of late, they rank 341st in momentum based on Haslametrics. And while the Boilermakers have been rebounding at a ridiculous rate, Rutgers 19th ranked defensive rebounding rate will compete well in West Lafayette.

The easy play is at Rutgers tonight. Purdue has already had their quintessential overtime victory against a bad Big Ten team, they are due for another game like that tonight.

Play: Rutgers +8.5 (-115)

West Virginia at Oklahoma State

The Big 12 is an absolute gauntlet, even more so this season than usual, but their consistency gives us an edge in betting on their conference games.

This game is being played in Stillwater, and Oklahoma State ranks 46th in the nation when playing on their home court. They have been playing much better of late, and their losses are closer. After coming off a heartbreaking loss in Kansas, they should be back with vengeance to take on West Virginia.

Oklahoma State’s defense is what I trust the most here. Their 18th-ranked defense is suffocating down low, which is where West Virginia does over half their scoring. The Pokes’ offense isn’t anything to go crazy about, but the Mountaineers’ defense isn’t their defense of old. I’m taking the home dogs here.

Play: Oklahoma State -2.5 (-110)

Other Plays:

  • Niagra -1.0 (-110)
  • Canisius -2.5 (-105)
