Villanova looks for perfect Big Five season vs. Temple

Dec 29, 2008 - 6:02 PM Temple (5-5) at No. 13 Villanova (10-1) 7:00 p.m. EST

VILLANOVA, Pennsylvania (Ticker) -- Prior to opening Big East play, 13th-ranked Villanova goes for a Big Five sweep Monday.

The Wildcats host Temple Monday in search of their fourth straight win before beginning conference play at 25th-ranked Marquette on January 1.

Villanova has posted three straight wins over Philadelphia foes Pennsylvania, St. Joseph's and La Salle. But the Wildcats are coming off an unimpressive 10-point victory over Navy last Monday.

Dante Cunningham had 24 points and 10 rebounds and Scottie Reynolds added 23. However the Midshipmen sank 14 3-pointers to stay close against their superior opponent.

Temple opens play against its city rivals looking to snap a two-game losing streak after an impressive win over then-No. 8 Tennessee.

The Owls followed a loss to Kansas by falling, 76-71, at Long Beach State last Monday. Dionte Christmas made just 6-of-19 field goal attempts for 19 points in the contest.

Christmas continues to lead the Owls with 20.8 points per game.
