Purdue host Illinois in Big Ten opener

Dec 30, 2008 - 2:23 PM Illinois (12-1) at No. 15 Purdue (11-2), 7:00 p.m. EST

WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana (Ticker) -- After cruising in its last six non-conference contests, Purdue will no doubt face some challenges in the weeks ahead.

The 15th-ranked Boilermakers open their Big Ten Conference slate with Illinois on Tuesday.

Purdue, which has won each of its last six contests by double digits, picked up its latest victory on Sunday with a 59-45 triumph over Valparaiso.

Robbie Hummel leads Purdue at 14.4 points per contest and E'Twaun Moore is second at 14.2 per game.

Coming off one of its worst seasons of the decade, Illinois has bounced back nicely so far this season.

The Fighting Illini have also won six straight games, including a 62-53 triumph over Eastern Michigan on Sunday.

Mike Tisdale scored 25 points in the win, while Demetri McCamey has played well all year, leading a balanced attack in scoring at 12.2 points per game.

Illinois is gunning for its 13th win - which it did not get until March 8 last season.
