Syracuse aims to go 2-0 in Big East

Jan 2, 2009 - 11:12 AM No. 11 Syracuse (13-1) at South Florida (5-7), 8:30 p.m. EST

TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- Syracuse should try to take advantage of its early Big East Conference schedule. It won't get any easier later in the season.

The 11th-ranked Orange look to go 2-0 in the Big East when they visit South Florida on Friday.

Syracuse (13-1, 1-0 Big East) opened conference play with a 100-76 triumph over Seton Hall on Tuesday, its fourth straight win overall.

Andy Rautins scored 26 points and Eric Devendorf had 20 in the win. Jonny Flynn leads the team in scoring at 17.2 per game.

The Big East features eight teams ranked in the Top 25, but Syracuse does not play one of them until its fifth conference contest. The Orange's next two games are against DePaul and Rutgers.

South Florida is the only team in the loaded Big East with a sub-.500 record, but the Bulls are coming off a 68-55 victory over Iona last Saturday.

Dominique Jones scored 36 points in the win and leads the team in scoring at 17.1 per game.

The game is the Big East opener for South Florida.
