Virginia out for revenge against Xavier
Jan 3, 2009 - 1:34 PM CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia (Ticker) -- Xavier will look for a repeat performance of last season when it faces Virginia on Saturday.The Musketeers embarrassed Virginia last year, 108-70, propelled by a 61-point performance in the first half. Seven players scored in double figures in that contest.
The 22nd-ranked Musketeers avoided a three-game losing streak with a 78-57 victory over Robert Morris on Wednesday.
Brad Redford and Jason Love scored 15 points apiece as Xavier raced out to an 18-point halftime lead. It bounced back after losing two straight games to then-No. 6 Duke and Butler.
Derrick Brown leads Xavier with 14.2 points and B.J. Raymond contributes 11.3 points per game.
Virginia opened its Atlantic Coast Conference schedule with an 88-84 overtime win on Sunday, taking back-to-back games for the first time since it began the season with three straight victories.
Sylven Landesberg led five players in double figures with 26 points while Mustapha Farrakhan and Jamil Tucker combined for 27 points off the bench.
