Louisville looks to bounce back before Big East play

Jan 4, 2009 - 2:59 PM Kentucky (11-3) at No. 18 Louisville (8-3), 4:30 p.m. EST

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (Ticker) -- A pair of teams looking for a quality non-conference victory will meet on Sunday when Kentucky visits No. 18 Louisville.

The Cardinals, who have lost two of three, may be in greater need of a key victory after falling to Nevada-Las Vegas, 56-55, on Wednesday. The Rebels were without their leading scorer, Wink Adams, due to injury.

Louisville was expected to be amongst the contenders in the loaded Big East Conference this season and open conference play at South Florida next Wednesday.

Freshman Samardo Samuels is averaging 14.7 points and seven rebounds to lead the Cardinals.

Kentucky, which has wins against West Virginia and Kansas State to its credit, has won six straight games and 11 of its last 12.

Jodie Meeks scored 23 points as the Wildcats posted an 84-52 victory over Central Michigan last Monday. Meeks has made 51 3-pointers this season and leads the Southeastern Conference in scoring at 24.1 points per game.

The Wildcats open SEC play against Vanderbilt next Saturday.

Louisville won at Kentucky, 89-75, last season.
