Injury-plagued Purdue visits Penn State

Jan 6, 2009 - 2:51 PM (14) Purdue (11-3) at Penn State (12-2) 9:00 p.m. EST

STATE COLLEGE, Pennsylvania (Ticker) -- No. 14 Purdue likely will be without two of its best players when it looks to rebound from a tough loss against Penn State on Tuesday in a Big Ten Conference showdown.

The Boilermakers may not have the services of Robbie Hummel and Chris Kramer, who have not practiced since a 71-67 overtime loss to Illinois last week.

Purdue (11-3, 0-1) has not started 0-2 in conference play since 2005-06, when it went 3-13 in the Big Ten.

The Boilermakers will have a tough time avoiding a similar start without defensive specialist Kramer and Hummel, the team's second-leading scorer (13.8 ppg) and top rebounder (8.3 rpg).

The duo's absence will mean E'Twaun Moore will have more pressure to step up. Moore scored 17 points against the Illini and is averaging a team-best 14.6 points.

Penn State (12-2,0-1) is looking to rebound from a 65-61 loss to Wisconsin on Saturday. Stanley Pringle scored 22 of his career-high 26 points in the second half.

The Nittany Lions have lost four straight and nine of the last 11 meetings between the teams.
