Following contract deal, Self guides No. 5 Kansas vs. DePaul

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Kansas has shown its appreciation for the coaching job Bill Self has done in recent seasons.

Just two days after signing a five-year contract extension, Self will try to guide the fifth-ranked Jayhawks to their seventh victory in eight games when they visit DePaul on Saturday.

The reigning Big 12 Coach of the Year, Self is 78-25 in three-plus seasons at Kansas and 285-130 overall. He has led the Jayhawks to two regular season conference titles, one conference tournament crown and one trip to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tourney.

Since a surprising loss to Oral Roberts on November 15, the Jayhawks have won five straight games, including Saturday's 82-80 overtime triumph over defending NCAA champion Florida at the Las Vegas Invitational.

Darnell Jackson and Darrell Arthur scored 13 points each and Julian Wright added 12 to lead Kansas in Tuesday's 83-32 rout of Dartmouth. The Jayhawks limited the Big Green to 25 percent (12-of-48) shooting and set a season low in points allowed.

DePaul has played just one home game this season and dropped two of three contests at the Maui Invitational.

Wilson Chandler scored 16 points, Draelon Burns added 15 and Sammy Meija 13 for the Blue Demons in an 81-73 loss to Purdue in the tournament's fifth-place game on November 22.

Kansas has won all seven matchups against DePaul, including a 75-69 victory on December 12, 2000.
