Syracuse hosts Wichita State in battle of unbeatens
Dec 2, 2006 - 3:45 PM No. 22 Wichita St (5-0) at No. 14 Syracuse (7-0) 7:00 pm ESTSYRACUSE, New York (Ticker) -- A pair of undefeated ranked schools meet Saturday when No. 14 Syracuse hosts No. 22 Wichita State at the Carrier Dome.
The Orange are coming off Monday's 72-64 triumph against Holy Cross behind 21 points from Demetris Nichols and 14 from freshman Paul Harris. Josh Wright chipped in 13 points for Syracuse, which had won each of its previous six games by double digits.
The Orange also flashed their patented 2-3 zone defense, which held the Crusaders to 36 percent (22-of-60) shooting and forced 18 turnovers.
Syracuse likely will have a tougher time against Wichita State, a "Sweet 16" team from a year ago.
The Shockers already have beaten one ranked team this season, defeating Louisiana State on November 25. They certainly did not have a letdown after that win, posting an 85-55 triumph against Missouri-Kansas City on Wednesday.
P.J. Couisnard scored 16 points and Sean Ogirri added 15 as Wichita State shot 54 percent (30-of-55) and held a 35-23 rebounding advantage. Phillip Thomasson contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Shockers.
No one has shouted yet.
