Griffin, Oklahoma open Big 12 Conference play

Jan 10, 2009 - 11:37 AM No. 6 Oklahoma (14-1) at Kansas State (11-3), 1:30 p.m. EST

MANHATTAN, Kansas (Ticker) -- Oklahoma opens up conference play on Saturday, but it may already be looking ahead.

The sixth-ranked Sooners visit Kansas State in the Big 12 Conference opener for both teams.

The preseason pick to win the conference in the Big 12 coaches' poll, Oklahoma could be caught looking ahead to Monday when it takes on No. 7 Texas.

Since suffering its first loss, Oklahoma has won its past two contests, including a 100-64 rout of Maryland-Eastern Shore on Monday.

Blake Griffin had 20 points and 16 rebounds in the win and is averaging 22.1 and 14 this season.

The Wildcats enter the contest on a six-game winning streak, recording a double-digit margin of victory in each win.

Fred Brown scored a career-high 26 points in Monday's 99-68 triumph over Chicago State. Jacob Pullen added 12 in the win and leads the team in scoring at 14.7 per contest.

Kansas State won the lone meeting last season, 84-82, behind Michael Beasley's 32 points and 11 rebounds. Last season's Big 12 Player of the Year had the game-winning basket with under three seconds left.
