Georgetown tries to get back on track against Providence

Jan 10, 2009 - 11:37 AM Providence (11-4) at No. 10 Georgetown (10-3), 1:00 p.m. EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Tenth-ranked Georgetown looks to snap a two-game losing streak when it hosts Providence in a Big East Conference contest on Saturday.

The Hoyas (10-3, 1-2 Big East) opened conference play with a win at then-No. 2 Connecticut, but have lost back-to-back games to top-ranked Pittsburgh and No. 13 Notre Dame.

Freshman Greg Monroe had his first double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds in Monday's 73-67 setback at Notre Dame. DaJuan Summers, who leads the team in scoring at 14.9 points per contest, had 11.

While Georgetown has battled against the conference's top competition, Providence (11-4, 3-0) has gotten off to a surprising start against the Big East's lower tier teams.

The Friars are 3-0 in the Big East for the first time since the 1988-89 season after Wednesday's 87-79 triumph at Cincinnati. Providence also has wins over St. John's and DePaul.

Weyinmi Efejuku scored 18 points in the latest win and the senior leads the team in scoring at 13.9 per game.

Georgetown won the lone meeting last season, 68-58, at Providence.
