Xavier looks to keep rolling vs. Fordham

Jan 11, 2009 - 2:30 PM BRONX, New York (Ticker) -- Xavier appears to have hit its stride just in time for conference play.

The 18th-ranked Musketeers will vie for their fourth consecutive victory when they visit Fordham in an Atlantic-10 matchup on Sunday.

After dropping consecutive contests to Duke and Butler, Xavier (12-2, 1-0 A-10) has reeled off three straight wins by an average of 20.3 points per game.

In their conference opener, Derrick Brown led the way with 20 points as the Musketeers trounced St. Louis, 70-44, on Thursday. Brown was perfect on the night, making all six of his field goal attempts and going 5-for-5 from the free-throw line.

C.J. Anderson added 13 and Jason Love scored 11 as Xavier limited St. Louis to 22 points in each half to win its conference opener.

Fordham (2-11, 0-1) enters the contest riding a four-game losing streak, including a 78-65 loss to St. Bonaventure on Wednesday.

Freshman Jio Fontan matched a season-high with 22 points in the losing effort as the Rams made just 6-of-26 attempts from behind the arc. Mike Moore had 17 points, Chris Bethel added 11 and each grabbed nine rebounds for the Rams.
