Rivalry renewed when Southern California hosts UCLA

Jan 11, 2009 - 2:30 PM No. 7 UCLA (12-2) at Southern California (10-4) 10:30 p.m. EST

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Seventh-ranked UCLA will look for its ninth straight win when it travels to crosstown rival Southern California on Sunday.

The Bruins (12-2, 2-0 Pac-10) have opened the conference schedule with a pair of road victories and will go for a third straight in Los Angeles.

UCLA held off a late rally from Oregon en route to an 83-74 triumph last Saturday thanks to hot shooting from long-range, knocking down 13-of-22 from behind the arc. Seniors Darren Collison and Josh Shipp carried the scoring load with 22 and 17 respectively.

The Trojans (10-4, 1-1) are 9-0 at home this season but are coming off a shocking loss to Oregon State.

A late 3-pointer sent the game into overtime and Southern California was the victim of the Beavers' first conference win in 22 tries. The loss snapped the Trojans' five-game winning streak.

USC, which shot just 6-of-18 from 3-point range and allowed Oregon State to shoot 50 percent (25-of-50) from the field, was led by Taj Gibson's 15 points.

The Trojans have lost their only two previous meetings with the Bruins at the Galen Center.
