Wake Forest looks to take care of business vs. Boston College
Jan 14, 2009 - 11:30 AM No. 3 Wake Forest (14-0) at Boston College (13-4) 9:00 p.m. ESTCHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts (Ticker) -- Despite consecutive home losses, Boston College has already proven it is capable of knocking off one of the best teams in the country.
Third-ranked and undefeated Wake Forest hopes to avoid looking past the Eagles and becoming another upset victim Wednesday before a potential matchup with another unbeaten Atlantic Coast Conference foe this weekend.
The Demon Deacons (14-0, 1-0 ACC) finished up a less than challenging non-conference schedule with a bang, ending BYU's nation-leading 53-game home winning streak with a 94-87 triumph on January 3.
The encore performance by Wake Forest was even more impressive as it defeated then-No. 3 North Carolina, 92-89, to establish itself as one of the country's elite teams. Jeff Teague torched the Tar Heels for a career-high 34 points and Chaz Anderson matched a season-high with 20 points while grabbing nine rebounds.
If the Demon Deacons are able to top the Eagles, they will match the school's best start in history, set in 1926-27, and set up a contest for ACC supremacy when they face fellow unbeaten Clemson on Saturday.
Boston College (13-4, 1-1) will be looking to snap a two-game skid after its signature win. The Eagles followed up a road victory over then-No. 1 North Carolina with a shocking home loss to in-state opponent Harvard, 82-70.
The Eagles then fell to Miami, 77-71, on Saturday. Tyrese Rice scored 21 points on just 6-of-18 shooting and Rakim Sanders added 18.
Boston College is 7-0 all-time against Wake Forest.
