Saint Mary's looks to keep streaking

Jan 15, 2009 - 11:42 AM Loyola Marymount (1-16) at No. 25 Saint Mary's (15-1), 9:00 p.m. EST

MORAGA, California (Ticker) -- Ranked in the Top 25 for the first time this season, No. 25 Saint Mary's looks to extend its school-record winning streak to 13 games when it hosts Loyola Marymount in a West Coast Conference game on Thursday.

Led by sophomore point guard Patrick Mills, the Gaels (15-1, 2-0 WCC) have won 12 straight games, including Sunday's 66-54 victory over San Francisco.

Mills scored 19 points and Omar Samhan added 17 in the win. Mills is averaging 20 per contest and had made the game-winning 3-pointer in the waning seconds of Friday's 63-62 triumph over Santa Clara.

Extending the streak should not be much of a problem against Loyola Marymount, which opened the season with 15 straight losses.

After finally getting into the win column against Cal State Bakersfield, the Lions (1-16, 0-1) dropped their conference opener, 59-57, at Pepperdine.

Freshman Jarred DuBois scored 17 points in the loss and leads the team at 12.9 per game. He had 39 in the school's lone win on January 4.

Lions coach Max Good had been filling in for Bill Bayno, who was on medical leave since November. Earlier this week, Bayno officially resigned and Good was given a long-term contract.
