Xavier eyes fifth straight win
Jan 15, 2009 - 11:41 AM No. 16 Xavier (13-2) at Rhode Island (11-5), 8:00 p.m. ESTPROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (Ticker) -- Xavier hopes to keep rolling when it visits Rhode Island in an Atlantic 10 Conference matchup on Thursday.
The 16th-ranked Musketeers (13-2, 2-0 A10) have won their last four contests, including a pair of blowout wins in conference play.
Xavier cruised past Saint Louis last Thursday and pounded Fordham, 86-60, on Sunday.
Derrick Brown is averaging 14.1 points per game to lead the Musketeers, who won at Rhode Island, 81-77, last season.
The Rams (11-5, 0-1) lost their conference opener, 92-86, in triple overtime at Saint Joseph's on Saturday.
Jimmy Baron scored 19 points to lead Rhode Island, which had come back from a 17-point halftime deficit to force overtime. Baron is averaging 17.3 per contest.
