About Oklahoma State

• Oklahoma State comes into this one with another long list of highly-coveted players in the recruiting rankings. Talent and athleticism are not in short supply for head coach Mike Boyton. The Pokes can force turnovers, and they succeed when this translates to points in transition. Forcing Oklahoma State to play in the half court via efficient offense or good shot selection is the recipe for success against this team.
• Avery Anderson is someone who has had big games against the Sooners in past years- including a game of 25 last season in OU’s OT win in Norman. Don’t fret too much — Anderson has struggled to find his footing early in the year. Shooting under 20% from the outside and under 50% from the field, Anderson is not the lethal rim attacker he was this time a year ago. Scoring comes from Kalib Boone inside and Bryce Thompson on the outside.
• Boone is someone who the Sooners have seen on plenty of occasions. With the Cowboy starting center — Moussa Cisse— out with injury, his offensive game has flourished. Thompson, however has struggled as of late, but the fear for OU is that he is a stick of TNT ready to explode at a moments notice.
• Cisse was one of the biggest recruiting wins for Mike Boyton in his tenure. That said, it would be a surprise to see him patrolling the paint tonight, as he has been out with an injury. Boyton has been playing coy with his availability, but reports are that we are unlikely to see him play tonight. If so, that’s a major advantage for Oklahoma’s attempts to get to the rim as Boone, who is normally the starting 4, sometimes struggles as a paint protector.

Prediction

I think Oklahoma has just enough punch and star power to make this game interesting. Hill and Sherfield alone could put this out of reach and make it tough on a team that struggles to score, not to mention the defense the Sooners have brought to the table. However, this is likely a game that makes Tanner Groves and the Sooners’ lack of size evident, but not crippling.

Give me a good Bryce Thompson and a good Kalib Boone, but a better Grant Sherfield and Jalen Hill to propel the Sooners to a win in Bedlam Part 1.
