Georgetown, Duke meet in non-conference showdown

Jan 17, 2009 - 11:18 AM No. 12 Georgetown (12-3) at No. 2 Duke (15-1) 1:30 p.m. EST

DURHAM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Despite rigorous conference schedules, Georgetown and Duke are not afraid to step outside the Big East and Atlantic Coast Conference.

The 12th-ranked Hoyas play their final non-conference game when they face the No. 2 Blue Devils on Saturday.

Georgetown, which will close the season with 13 straight games against Big East foes - five that are currently ranked inside the Top 25 - opened conference play with a win before suffering back-to-back losses.

The Hoyas have rebounded with consecutive wins in their last two games, including an impressive 88-74 victory over eighth-ranked Syracuse on Wednesday.

Leading-scorer DaJuan Summers poured in 21 points and Austin Freeman added 19 for Georgetown, which had its best 3-point shooting game of the season, hitting 12-of-21 (57 percent) from beyond the arc.

Duke extended its winning streak to seven-games on Wednesday with a 70-56 victory over ACC foe Georgia Tech.

Gerald Henderson and Kyle Singler led the way with 19 points apiece for the Blue Devils, who will step out of the ACC one final time when they visit St. John's on February 19.
