Unbeaten Pittsburgh faces big road test at Louisville

Jan 17, 2009 - 11:21 AM No. 1 Pittsburgh (16-0) at No. 20 Louisville (12-3), 6:00 p.m. EST

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (Ticker) -- Following a pair of home wins against lesser competition, top-ranked Pittsburgh faces a stern test when it visits No. 20 Louisville on Saturday.

Ranked No. 1 for the first time in school history, the Panthers (16-0, 4-0 Big East) are coming off back-to-back wins against St. John's and South Florida.

Tyrell Biggs scored a season-high 16 points and DeJuan Blair had 13 and 18 rebounds as Pittsburgh posted a 75-62 victory over South Florida on Wednesday. Levance Fields added 11 points and 13 assists.

The start is the third-best in school history for Pittsburgh, which began 18-0 during the 2003-04 season and 21-0 in the 1927-28 campaign.

Louisville (12-3, 3-0) struggled through parts of its non-conference schedule, but seems to have righted itself with four straight wins.

Terrence Williams had 24 points, 16 rebounds and eight assists as the Cardinals wore down 13th-ranked Notre Dame and scored the game's final 14 points to win in overtime, 87-73, on Monday.

Freshman Samardo Samuels added 18 points and Earl Clark had 15 and 10 rebounds for his second straight double-double in the win.

Louisville has won the past two regular-season meetings - both at Pittsburgh. The Panthers won at Freedom Hall on January 15, 2006.
