Maryland, Notre Dame meet in BB&T Classic

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Maryland goes from Big Ten Conference competition to the Big East when it faces Notre Dame in the BB&T Classic on Sunday.

The 19th-ranked Terrapins improved to 2-0 this season against the Big Ten after a 72-66 victory over Illinois on Tuesday in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge. Maryland owns a 1-0 record vs. Big East teams.

Mike Jones scored 19 points and freshman Greivis Vasquez added 17 in Tuesday's win. James Gist collected 11 points, seven rebounds and four blocks for the Terrapins, who held their opponent to 35 percent (24-of-69) shooting.

The Fighting Irish extended their winning streak to four after a 90-45 rout of Winston-Salem on Wednesday. Rob Kurz netted 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds while making all five shots from the floor and all eight free throws. Colin Falls had 13 points for Notre Dame, which shot 57 percent (32-of-56) overall.

The Irish hold a 9-8 advantage in the all-time series with the Terrapins. They beat Maryland, 79-67, in the 2002 BB&T Classic.
