UNC looking to continue home dominance over Clemson

Jan 21, 2009 - 11:18 AM No. 9 Clemson (16-1) at No. 6 North Carolina (16-2) 9:00 p.m. EST

CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina (Ticker) -- North Carolina has enjoyed NCAA-record success at home against Clemson. However, if last season was any indication, Clemson is close to bringing the streak to an end.

The sixth-ranked Tar Heels host the ninth-ranked Tigers in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup on Wednesday.

UNC (16-2, 2-2 ACC) is 53-0 at home against Clemson, an NCAA record for consecutive home wins against one opponent.

Last season, the Tigers nearly broke through before falling in double overtime, 103-93. Clemson led by 15 points in the second half and was up, 79-68, with 3:13 remaining in regulation.

After an 0-2 start in conference play, North Carolina has posted consecutive wins.

Tyler Hansbrough scored 24 points and Wayne Ellington had all 23 of his points in the second half, making seven 3-pointers to lead the Tar Heels to an 82-65 victory over Miami on Saturday.

Clemson (16-1, 2-1) is coming off its first loss of the season, a 78-68 setback to the new No. 1 team, Wake Forest.

K.C. Rivers and Terrence Oglesby each scored 15 points in the loss, which prevented the Tigers from tying the best start in school history.
