UCLA looks to bounce back from first Pac-10 loss

Jan 22, 2009 - 11:21 AM No. 11 UCLA (14-3) at Washington State (11-6) 9:00 p.m. EST

PULLMAN, Washington (Ticker) -- A lengthy drought ended UCLA's undefeated run in Pac-10 play.

The 11th-ranked Bruins look to bounce back from their first conference loss of the season on Thursday when they visit Washington State.

UCLA (14-3, 4-1 Pac-10) owned an 11-point advantage in the second half against then-No. 15 Arizona State on Saturday before failing to score a point over the final 8:06 of regulation as the Sun Devils rallied to send the game to overtime.

Darren Collison hit two free throws with 3:41 left in overtime to break the drought and tie the game at 56-56. But UCLA, which struggled against Arizona State's swarming zone defense all game, was unable to get off a 3-pointer on its final possession, falling 61-58 in overtime.

The Bruins finished 43 percent (22-of-52) from the field and 7-of-25 on 3-pointers as their 15-game home win streak came to an end.

UCLA will try to improve its shooting against Washington State (11-6, 3-2), which earned its third straight win Saturday, 74-62, over Oregon.

Taylor Rochestie poured in a career-high 30 points, including 16 from the foul line, and Aron Baynes had 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Cougars, who hit all 28 free throws during the contest.
