College Basketball Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions: Monday (1/30)

Jan 30, 2023 - 1:33 PM

Welcome to the Monday college basketball slate. I hope everyone’s weekends were successful and that your seasons have been too. March Madness is right around the corner, I can almost taste it. It is a solid Monday slate but remember not to force any bets you don’t love, there is still plenty of season left.

This Week: 10-9
This Season: 57-47-4

Here are my best bets for Monday.

And check out our other top picks for Monday:

Baylor at Texas

For the most exciting game of the slate, you have two Big 12 teams with tournament plans taking on each other in Austin.

Where I expect this game to be won is in the paint. Both teams’ near-proximity shooting is elite, with Baylor ranking 11th and Texas 30th. The Bears’ ability to rebound at an elite level – sixth best in the nation – and capitalize is heads and shoulders above what Texas has been able to stop this season.

Both squads rank in the top 10 offensively. Texas can run and gun, scoring from anywhere inside the arc. Even if both these teams struggle to shoot the ball, there will be plenty of opportunities for putbacks and second looks.

While I am generally an analytical friendly guy, I also simply trust Baylor more right now with Scott Drew at the helm. I can’t exactly quantify it, but late in the game, I would much rather go to Drew for the Xs and Os. This is a special game for y’all because I got two plays in this one.

Play: Baylor +3.5 (-110) AND Over 148 (-110)

Virginia at Syracuse

Syracuse is usually a relatively straightforward team to bet on one way or another due to their play style, but this is one of the more spot-on lines I’ve seen all season.

Virginia’s slow pace of play always invites teams to stay in the game. They are 6-10 ATS as favorites this season – that’s nothing new. What is new about this Tony Bennett lead team is their offense, ranking 18th in the nation. The Cavaliers rank 20th at shooting from deep, the kryptonite to Syracuse’s defense.

On the other side of the ball, Virginia will invite threes all day, but Syracuse doesn’t take many, with only 25.8 percent of their points coming from beyond the arc, 312th lowest in the nation. This Virginia team is quite experienced and has played quite well away from home. Despite their slow pace of play, I still expect them to take this one.

Play: Virginia -5.5 (-110)

Other Plays

    • Morgan State -1.5
    • Oral Roberts -15.5
    • Florida A&M +2.0
