Sendek aims for 300th win vs. Washington St

Jan 29, 2009 - 11:22 AM Washington State (11-8) at No. 14 Arizona State (16-3) 9:00 p.m. EST

TEMPE, Arizona (Ticker) -- Herb Sendek is about to reach a coaching milestone with a little help from James Harden.

Sendek will be looking for his 300th career victory when No. 14 Arizona State faces Washington State on Thursday.

The 45-year-old Sendek will become the second-youngest coach active coach to reach the plateau, after Florida's Billy Donovan. Sendek owns a career record of 299-196 in 15 years with Miami University (Ohio), North Carolina State and the Sun Devils.

Arizona State (16-3, 5-2 Pac-10) has won two in a row and is led by one of the best players in the conference in the sophomore, Harden, who leads the Pac-10 in scoring at 22 points per game. The 6-5 guard also leads the conference in steals.

Harden scored 21 points and Jeff Pendergraph collected 11 points and 14 rebounds on January 21 as the Sun Devils took down in-state rival Arizona, 53-47.

The Cougars (11-8, 3-4) have dropped two straight and are beginning a season-high, four-game road trip against Arizona State.

They managed a season-low scoring output on 27 percent (14-of-51) shooting on Saturday in a 46-44 loss to Southern California. Leading scorer Taylor Rochestie managed just six points.
