Washington takes aim at seventh straight win

Dec 4, 2006 - 3:27 PM Southern Utah (6-2) at No. 11 Washington (6-0) 10:00 pm EST

SEATTLE (Ticker) - Washington looks to complete a perfect season-opening homestand when it faces Southern Utah on Monday.

The Huskies have a 12-game home winning streak and are 45-2 in their last 47 games at Bank of America Arena. They have won 14 straight regular-season games and 23 in a row over non-conference teams.

Washington also started 6-0 last season en route to winning its first 11, but with nine freshmen on the roster, the schedule was tailored to include nine home games in the first 10.

Following the game against Southern Utah, the Huskies will have a showdown on Saturday at in-state rival Gongaza, the last non-conference team to beat them.

Both Washington and Southern Utah are coming off wins against Idaho. The Thunderbirds drubbed Idaho, 72-50, on Saturday night, while the Huskies rolled to an 87-66 victory on Wednesday behind freshman Quincy Pondexter's 25 points.

The Thunderbirds, who won their season opener at Utah, led the nation in 3-point shooting last season at 42.9 percent.

They haven't shied away from the arc this season, hoisting 124 through eight games. Southern Utah was hitting at a 46 percent clip prior to a 2-for-18 performance against Idaho.
