Oregon State WBB: Beavers Fall Against USC In Overtime, 60-56
Feb 12, 2023 - 11:17 PMOregon State once again came close to knocking off a good team on the road, but once again fell just short. Sunday afternoon, they took the USC Trojans to overtime, but couldn’t close them out for the win, with the Beavers losing 60-56. The loss drops Oregon State to 11-13 overall, and 3-10 in conference play. USC improves to 8-5, and 18-6 in the Pac-12.
The Trojans led for much of the game, but midway through the fourth quarter a layup from Raegan Beers gave the Beavers the lead, and free throws from Bendu Yeaney and AJ Marotte got that lead up to 4 with 4 minutes left in the game. A jumper from USC’s Destiny Littleton was matched with a layup from Beers, and the Beavers were still up four with 2:40 left on the clock.
A three from Okako Adika then cut the OSU margin to just one, and Adika was fouled on the play. She tied the game with her free throw. Raegan Beers got the Beavers back in front with a pair of free throws, but Littleton tied the game again with a layup. That was the final scoring in regulation, as neither team could break the 55-55 stalemate.
The extra time was all Trojans. The Beavers managed just one point in OT, a free throw from Beers. Destiny Littleton and Clarice Akunwafo did just enough to put the Trojans in front, and they would hang on to a 60-56 win. Cold shooting once again doomed the Beavers in defeat.
Raegan Beers once again led the Beavers in scoring, finishing the day with another double double. She had 18 points, 16 rebounds and 2 assists. Bendu Yeaney also broke into double digits, with 12 points, 3 assists and 2 rebounds. AJ Marotte rounded out the top scorers, with 8 points and 3 rebounds.
With two weeks left in the regular season the Beavers will be back on the road next weekend, taking on the Washington schools. Unless they go on an impressive run, they’ll be a 10 or 11 seed in the Pac-12 tournament, and with how stacked the top of the conference is that’s a tough road to go down.
