Clemson eyes another win at lowly Virginia

Feb 15, 2009 - 7:22 AM No. 11 Clemson (20-3) at Virginia (7-13) 1:00 p.m. EST

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia (Ticker) -- Clemson is right in the thick of the battle for the Atlantic Coast Conference. A meeting with one of the league's worst teams should bolster its standing.

The 11th-ranked Tigers look to earn back-to-back wins on Sunday when they visit lowly Virginia.

Clemson (20-3, 6-3 ACC) is in third place in the conference, 1 1/2 games behind third-ranked North Carolina on the strength of four wins in its last five games.

After suffering a four-point loss to then-unranked Florida State on February 7, the Tigers bounced back with an 87-77 victory over Boston College on Tuesday.

Trevor Booker had 21 points and 15 rebounds and Terrence Oglesby added 21 points and five assists for Clemson, which outscored Boston College, 52-38, in the second half and reached 20 wins for the third consecutive season.

The Tigers' 21st win this campaign appears to be right around the corner against the Cavaliers (7-13, 1-8), who are a half-game in front of last-place Georgia Tech in the conference.

Virginia has sunk in the standings due to an eight-game losing streak that continued with a 68-57 loss to the Seminoles on Tuesday.
