No. 10 Connecticut looks to remain unbeaten vs. Northeastern

Dec 6, 2006 - 4:17 PM Northeastern (2-5) at No. 10 Connecticut (7-0) 7:30 pm EST

STORRS, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Closing in on a couple of career milestones, Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun is getting set to again face his former team.

The 10th-ranked Huskies try to win their 26th consecutive home game when they continue a season-opening 11-game homestand Wednesday against Northeastern.

Needing one victory to tie John Chaney for 13th place in Division I history (741), Calhoun won 250 games in 14 seasons at Northeastern before taking over at Connecticut in 1986. The Hall of Famer needs eight wins for 500 with the Huskies and 10 for 750 overall.

Since a seven-point win over intrastate rival-Quinnipiac on November 10, Connecticut has rolled in its last six victories, winning by an average of nearly 33 points.

A.J. Price scored 20 points, Jerome Dyson added 19 and Doug Wiggins 17 for the Huskies, who set a season-high in points and victory margin in Sunday's 106-55 victory over Texas Southern.

After opening with four losses, Northeastern has won two of its last three contests, including Saturday's 58-51 triumph over UNC-Wilmington.

Adrian Martinez and Bennet Davis scored 12 points each and Bobby Kelly added 11 for Northeastern, which won despite being rebounded, 49-31.

Connecticut holds a 32-4 lead in the all-time series and has not lost to Northeastern since December 28, 1985, Calhoun's final season there.
