Marquette hoping to move past Connecticut atop Big East

Feb 25, 2009 - 11:23 AM No. 2 Connecticut (25-2) at No. 10 Marquette (23-4) 7:00 p.m. EST

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Something has to give on Wednesday when second-ranked Connecticut puts its unbeaten road record on the line against No. 10 Marquette, which has yet to suffer a home loss this season.

The Huskies (25-2, 13-2 Big East) are tied with sixth-ranked Louisville (22-5, 13-2) for the top spot in the conference, a half-game in front of Marquette (23-4, 12-2) and a game ahead of No. 1 Pittsburgh (25-3, 12-3), which was toppled by Providence on Tuesday.

Connecticut owes its standing to a 9-0 mark away from home, highlighted by wins over then-No. 22 West Virginia, then-No. 19 Notre Dame, and, most recently, a 17-point drubbing of then-No. 7 Louisville on February 2.

After dropping an eight-point home loss to then-No. 4 Pittsburgh on February 16, the Huskies bounced back and remained atop the Big East with a 64-50 victory over South Florida on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles have been unstoppable at home this season, earning 16 straight wins, including a 79-67 triumph over Seton Hall on February 17.

Marquette is coming off its third straight win, a 78-72 victory against slumping Georgetown on Saturday and will look to keep the momentum going as it meets UConn for the first and only time in the regular season.
