Purdue still gunning for Big Ten title

Feb 26, 2009 - 11:22 AM No. 16 Purdue (21-6) at Michigan (17-11) 9:00 p.m. EST

ANN ARBOR, Michigan (Ticker) -- Sixteenth-ranked Purdue continues its pursuit of the Big Ten title when it visits Michigan on Thursday.

The Boilermakers (21-6, 10-4 Big Ten) enter the contest 1 1/2 games behind ninth-ranked Michigan State (22-5, 12-3) for the top spot in the conference. Purdue will visit Michigan State on March 8 in the final regular-season game for both teams.

Before they can turn their attention to that matchup, the Boilermakers go for a fifth straight win overall against Michigan, which gave them a temporary scare in the first meeting this season.

Michigan's Manny Harris, who is second in the Big Ten in scoring at 16.9 points per game, was ejected early in the second half after elbowing Chris Kramer in the nose.

Purdue rallied behind its team captain, outscoring the Wolverines 40-20 en route to a 67-49 victory on January 31.

Michigan (17-11, 7-8) had a two-game win streak snapped during a 70-60 overtime loss to Iowa on Sunday as it managed only four points in the extra session.
