Gonzaga on track for unblemished conference record

Feb 26, 2009 - 11:23 AM No. 17 Gonzaga (21-5) at Santa Clara (14-15) 11:00 p.m. EST

SANTA CLARA, California (Ticker) -- Gonzaga is once again dominating the West Coast Conference. A meeting with Santa Clara shouldn't change that.

The 17th-ranked Bulldogs try to move one step closer to an undefeated conference record when they host the Broncos on Thursday.

Gonzaga (21-5, 12-0 WCC) has won four straight games, all against WCC opponents, including the last two in lopsided fashion.

The Bulldogs clinched at least a share of their ninth straight conference title with a 37-point drubbing of Loyola Marymount last Thursday, before securing the crown outright by throttling Pepperdine, 92-58, on Saturday.

Josh Heytvelt scored a career-high 28 points and Matt Bouldin had all 16 of his points in the first half for Gonzaga, which shot 57 percent (37-of-65) from the floor as it defeated Pepperdine for the 16th straight time.

Another rout should be in store against Santa Clara (14-15, 6-6), which endured an embarrassing 95-53 setback to the Bulldogs on January 15.

The Broncos are coming off a 67-66 overtime loss to San Francisco on Saturday, their second in the last three games.
