Dec 7, 2006 - 4:10 AM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Aaron Gray again was seeing double.Gray collected 15 points and 12 rebounds as second-rankedPittsburgh remained unbeaten with a 73-56 victory over intracityrival Duquesne.A 7-foot center, Gray had his way in the paint en route to hissixth double-double in nine games this season and 23rd career."We did a great job coming out energized, moving the ball realwell," said Gray, who made 6-of-13 shots. "We were reallyexecuting our plays and then were able to go down on the otherend and force some tough shots and rebound well. It was the waywe wanted to come out.""We didn't really have an answer for Gray tonight," Duquesnefirst-year coach Ron Everhart said.Mike Cook added 11 points and Sam Young and Tyrell Biggs 10apiece for Pittsburgh, which improved to 9-0 for the thirdstraight season and 25-0 in four seasons under coach Jamie Dixonin December.The latest win for the Panthers never was in doubt as they racedto a 30-10 lead with 9:08 remaining in the first half onYoung's dunk. They held a 42-28 halftime advantage and cruisedthereafter."I thought we came out and played very well," Dixon said. "Wedid the things we wanted to do."Robert Mitchell scored 13 points and Stephen Wood 12 forDuquesne (2-5), which lost its fifth straight game following a2-0 start.Pittsburgh beat its city rival for the 25th time in the last 28meetings to improve to 44-31 all-time in the series known as the"City Game."It marked the first game between the schools since the September17 shootings of five Duquesne players at a party attended bystudents from both schools.Sam Ashaolu, a Duquesne player who nearly died in the violence,sat on the bench for the first time this season. He still isrecovering from two gunshot wounds to the head.Despite Ashaolu's presence, the Dukes' emotion failed to carrythem against the Panthers, who raced to a double-digit lead lessthan five minutes into the contest."I thought we came in a little awestruck," Everhart said. "Ithought that we started the game a little bit timid and didn'treally come out with the type of fire and hunger I thought weshould have."The Dukes narrowed a 14-point halftime deficit to 47-37 early inthe second half, but Gray hit two free throws, Biggs scoredinside and Cook hit a jumper to restore control for thePanthers."We got a little loose, we got a little rambunctious," Graysaid. "We were trying to make some exciting plays, make thehighlight reel. But we did what we needed to do to win andthat's the most important thing."
