BYU Basketball has advanced to the semifinal round of the WCC Tournament and will play the no. 1 seeded Saint Mary’s Gaels in Las Vegas on Monday night.

The 5-seed BYU Cougars (19-14) got to this point by first defeating Portland on Friday then Loyola Marymount on Saturday. Portland was the 8 seed in the tourney, while LMU was the 4. BYU beat LMU, 73-63.

Saint Mary’s has yet to play in the tournament, having earned the triple bye with the one seed. The Gaels’ last game was on Feb. 25 — A loss at Gonzaga, 77-68. Saint Mary’s is 25-6 overall with a 14-2 conference record.

BYU and Saint Mary’s played twice this season, with Saint Mary’s earning the sweep. The Gaels beat the Cougars by one in Provo at the end of Jan. then defeated them again in Moraga on Feb. 18. ESPN’s Matchup Predictor gives Saint Mary’s an 83 percent chance of winning.

Gonzaga and San Francisco are on the other side of the bracket, and the winner of that game will face the winner of BYU/SMC in the tournament final on Tuesday.
