Xavier visits Richmond for season finale
Mar 7, 2009 - 11:14 AM No. 18 Xavier (24-5) at Richmond (16-14) 7:00 p.m. ESTRICHMOND, Virginia (Ticker) -- With the Atlantic 10 regular-season title wrapped up, 18th-ranked Xavier looks to close the regular season on a high note when it visits Richmond on Saturday.
B.J. Raymond celebrated his Senior Night with 14 points, Dante Jackson added 14 and Derrick Brown collected 12 and 11 rebounds for the Musketeers (23-5, 11-3 Atlantic 10), who clinched the outright regular-season crown and the No. 1 seed in the A-10 tournament with a 76-59 drubbing of Dayton on Thursday.
Xavier set the pace in the first half with a strong defensive effort, holding the Flyers (24-6, 10-5) to 37 percent (11-of-30) shooting en route to a 40-27 lead at the break.
Raymond scored 12 points in the second half before being lifted to a standing ovation from the home crowd in the final minutes as the Musketeers cruised to their third straight victory.
The Spiders (16-14, 8-7) have won four of their last five games, including a 64-62 victory over Charlotte on Tuesday.
