Streaking Syracuse opens Big East tournament vs. Seton Hall
Mar 11, 2009 - 11:45 AM Seton Hall (17-14) vs. No. 20 Syracuse (23-8) 9:00 p.m. ESTNEW YORK (Ticker) -- Syracuse will look to build on the momentum it gained to close the regular season Wednesday when it opens the Big East tournament with a second-round clash against Seton Hall.
The Orange, who received a bye with a sixth-place finish in the conference standings, won four straight and five of six to end the regular season on fire.
With an NCAA Tournament spot locked up, Syracuse will look to add to its five conference tournament titles. To do so the Orange need to win four straight, a feat only accomplished one other time, also by Syracuse in 2006.
Seton Hall is one of eight teams that will need to win five straight in the expanded tournament and got off to a good start Tuesday, winning its first conference tournament game since 2003.
Jeremy Hazell scored 23 points as the Pirates were victorious in their opening round game, 68-54, against South Florida.
