Griffin, No. 7 Oklahoma open Big 12 tournament vs. rival

Mar 12, 2009 - 12:38 PM Oklahoma State (21-10) vs. No. 7 Oklahoma (27-4), 7:00 p.m. EDT

OKLAHOMA CITY (Ticker) -- Blake Griffin and seventh-ranked Oklahoma duels Oklahoma State in the first meeting between the rivals in Oklahoma City since 1942 as the Big 12 tournament continues on Thursday.

The Sooners (27-4, 13-3 Big 12) ended the regular season winning two of their last three contests, but still finished second in the conference, behind Kansas.

Griffin - the Big 12 Player of the Year - suffered a concussion February 21 in a loss to Texas and also missed Oklahoma's loss to the Jayhawks two nights later. However, he has averaged 23.0 points and 17.7 rebounds since returning.

Oklahoma State (21-10, 9-7), meanwhile, is looking to build off its rousing success in the stretch run of the regular season.

The Cowboys, who have won seven of their last eight, have fallen in five straight and eight of the last 10 meetings to the Sooners.
