No. 14 UCLA begins title defense against Washington State
Mar 12, 2009 - 12:39 PM Washington State (17-14) at No. 14 UCLA (24-7), 11:30 p.m. EDTLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Looking to defend its Pac-10 title, No. 14 UCLA faces Washington State as the conference tournament continues on Thursday.
The Bruins (24-7, 13-5 Pac-10) won the tournament title last year as the No. 1 seed, defeating No. 8 California 88-66 in the quarterfinals, fourth-seeded Southern California, 57-54, in the semifinals and No. 2 Stanford, 67-64, in the finals.
UCLA, which has won four in a row, is coming off a 94-68 victory over Oregon on Saturday.
Washington State was propelled by Aron Baynes, who scored 14 of his 20 points in the first half, to a 62-40 win over Oregon on Wednesday in a first-round game.
The win was the fourth in the last five games for the Cougars (17-14, 8-10). Washington State split its two games with UCLA this season.
