(2) Texas vs. (10) Penn State

Leg 1 – Texas -5.5 (-104)

The Texas Longhorns are extremely hot. But they’re not hotter than the Penn State Nittany Lions.

The Nittany Lions have relied on their three-point shooting to advance in the Big Ten and NCAA tournaments.

But that run stops tonight.

Penn State has shot 39% from downtown this season. They’ve also made over 53% of shots from inside the arc. However, the Nittany Lions rarely earn offensive rebounds and don’t get to the foul line at a high rate. That’s going to hurt them against a team like Texas.

The Longhorns earn more offensive rebounds, should get more trips to the foul line, and shoot nearly 35% from three and 53.7% from inside the arc. Texas is also over 75% from the foul line this season.

Neither team will force many turnovers, but if Penn State wants to win, it’ll have to shoot lights out from the field against an experience Texas group. I don’t see it happening.

Leg 2 – Over 137.5 (-110)

After all, Penn State will still hit shots. That’s what they do. The Nittany Lions won’t hit them at a huge clip in this game. Penn State and Texas will both limit turnovers.

That means we’ll get more shots. The more shots, the more action, and the more action, the more things will happen. Those things include more fouls, second chances, and shots made.

Penn State runs offense at a slow pace. But if Texas gets out to an early lead, Penn State will up the tempo, create more possessions late in the game, and help this game get over the total.

Leg 3 – Tyrese Hunter Over 10.5 Points (-113)

This isn’t Tyrese Hunter’s first rodeo. Hunter was a star for Iowa State in the Cyclones’ run in the NCAA Tournament last year. He’s averaged 10.2 points per game as as sophomore but hasn’t stepped up as much in tournament play.

However, against Colgate, he took 12 shots, with seven of them from three. He was more trigger-happy against Colgate, which excites me. If you let a kid like Hunter get hot, it’s over.

Hunter played 37 minutes against Colgate and will likely get around 35 minutes in tonight’s game against Penn State. He can score 11 for us.
