No. 21 Syracuse seeks 41st straight win over Colgate

Dec 9, 2006 - 4:15 PM Colgate (4-5) at No. 21 Syracuse (7-2) 7:00 pm EST

SYRACUSE, New York (Ticker) -- Looking to halt their first losing streak of the campaign, Syracuse squares off against a team it has had plenty of success against.

The 21st-ranked Orange open a six-game-homestand Saturday against intrastate foe Colgate, a team they have beaten 40 straight times since 1962.

Syracuse will try to end a disappointing stretch on a positive note after two defeats against ranked teams. After last Saturday's loss to Wichita State, the Orange committed 23 turnovers in Tuesday's 72-68 defeat to Oklahoma State at the Jimmy V Classic.

After scoring just six points against the Shockers, Demetris Nichols had 26 and grabbed 19 rebounds against the Cowboys. Terrence Roberts added 14 points and Paul Harris 11 for the Orange.

Colgate has won three of its last four games, including Wednesday's 82-34 rout over Elmira. Kyle Chones scored 12 points and Alex Woodhouse added 10 for the Red Raiders.

Looking to extend the nation's longest-active Division I winning streak over the same opponent, Syracuse leads the all-time series, 113-45. Nichols scored 13 points for the Orange in last season's 58-35 win over the Red Raiders.
