Butler looks to get back on track vs. Purdue

Dec 16, 2006 - 3:09 PM No. 18 Butler (10-1) at Purdue (8-1) 1:00 pm EST

INDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Even in its home state of Indiana, Butler has been one of the biggest surprises of the season. They will look to keep it going against an intrastate rival.

The 18th-ranked Bulldogs will face off with Purdue in the opener of the annual Wooden Tradition on Saturday at Conseco Fieldhouse.

After getting picked to finished sixth in the Horizon League's preseason standings, Butler has won 10 of its first 11 contests, including an NIT Season Tip-Off championship.

The home of the Indiana Pacers, Conseco has been friendly to Butler. The Bulldogs defeated in-state rivals Notre Dame and Indiana in the arena in mid-November.

Despite beating some of the state's most-heralded squads, the Bulldogs picked up their first loss on Saturday against a lesser opponent from the Hoosier State. Mike Green scored 18 points and Brandon Crone added 15 for the Butler, which shot 41 percent (22-of-53) but made just 8-of-30 from the arc in 74-62 loss to Indiana State.

Carl Landry had 23 points and 12 rebounds Saturday as Purdue picked up a 79-62 victory over Missouri.

The Boilermakers have won 12 of the last 13 contests against Butler.
