Gonzaga meets Georgia in battle of the Bulldogs
Dec 16, 2006 - 3:51 PM No. 16 Gonzaga (9-2) at Georgia (6-1) 5:00 pm ESTDULUTH, Georgia (Ticker) -- Gonzaga and Georgia meet in a battle of "Bulldogs" in the Chick-fil-A Bowl Classic for Kids on Saturday.
No. 16 Gonzaga is facing its second program this season with the same nickname. On November 24, Gonzaga endured a 79-71 setback to Butler, which also has the Bulldogs moniker.
Derek Raivio scored 25 points and freshman Matt Bouldin followed with 21 as Gonzaga posted a 97-77 rout of intrastate rival Washington a week ago. Josh Heytvelt had 14 points and seven rebounds for Gonzaga, which made 8-of-17 3-pointers.
Georgia is coming off a 96-67 rout of Gardner-Webb on December 5, recording its fifth straight win. Levi Stukes scored 20 points and Mike Mercer added 15, seven boards and five assists for Georgia, which held a 47-27 advantage in rebounding.
The all-time series between these two programs is tied 1-1 with Gonzaga taking the last meeting in 2003.
