UCLA looks to remain unbeaten vs. Oakland
Dec 16, 2006 - 6:07 PM Oakland (6-6) at No. 1 UCLA (8-0) 8:00 pm ESTLOS ANGELES (Ticker) - After a trip to the Final Four last season, UCLA has gotten off to a hot start in 2006-07.
The No. 1 Bruins will look to continue their stellar play when they host Oakland on Saturday at Pauley Pavilion.
One of the most-storied programs in college basketball, UCLA made a comeback last season after some down years. However, after star point guard Jordan Farmar left for the NBA, this Bruins team still has something to prove. On Saturday, it passed its first big test as the nation's top squad.
Josh Shipp scored 18 points and Arron Afflalo added nine of his 13 points in the final nine minutes of the contest as UCLA posted a 65-62 win over then-No. 6 Texas A&M in the John R. Wooden Classic.
In their last contest on Thursday, the Golden Grizzlies committed 27 turnovers en route to a 91-57 blowout loss to Arkansas. Derick Nelson had 16 points and eight rebounds for Oakland.
This is the first ever meeting between the schools.
